3) VISITORS/SPECTATORS MUST bring PROOF of vaccination in or to come in. Athletes and Coaches are exempt from this.
4) Obviously when we arrive, we TAP THE PLAQUE in honor of Frank Dutille before we secure our spot in the arena
FRANK DUTILLE
5) Long Jump and Shot Put MUST check in at their venue to determine their flight.
6) Coaches shall get packets and they shall be handed out complete with competition numbers. Please wear the CORRECT number that corresponds to your name.
7) FIRST CALL for your event is LAST CALL! If you are involved in another field event, either have a teammate check in for you and get your lane and heat assignment/sticker or check out with the official in he field. YOU MUST check back in with the official as soon as possible. If your flight is finished before you return...you are done at that event for the day!
8) HELP EACH OTHER OUT!
9) Coach Carr should be in the shot put area, Coach Budd should be in the Long Jump area, Coach Besser and Coach Gorman will either be in the stands taking splits or somewhere in the arena.
10) If you are uncertain about anything, see one of the Coaches or ask an official.
11) NO SPIKES in the gym, but you can put them on when you are in the arena. REMOVE them when you go back to the gym.
There are a LOT of competitors, so do not "get lost" in the shuffle. YOU are just as important as anyone else there. This is a great opportunity to showcase what you have learned thus far.
LEARN and HAVE FUN!

MOVING FORWARD
Times are challenging. Covid has altered everything we have wanted to do this season.
I assure you all this is not how Indoor Track and Field usually works ( all these changes).
Mr. Magee has been nothing but helpful.
HERE is what We INTEND to do moving forward:

NEW YEAR'S WEEK
Difficult choices ahead this week. We have several options.
January 8 is Freshman/Sophomore Championships at Reggie Lewis
January 8, the PVIAC is holding a meet at Wheaton again.
January 9, Minnechaug is hosting a field event day.
I would like to go to all of them, but we need a plan to make it work.
AM GOING TO NEED TO COLLECT ALL OF YOUR PVIAC NUMBERS AND PINS MONDAY!
COVID still looms out there and some of us may be affected. Not just OUR sport or school.
WEATHER also might not cooperate with outdoor practicing, which means we shall need to figure out how to contain our workouts without getting in each other's way all week.
WE MUST MEET tomorrow and discuss, I shall also need to have a conference with Mr. Magee.
The FOLLOWING week is the Northeast Invitational at Reggie. This is a meet where EVERYONE can participate. It spans three days, but we would only consider attending on Friday and Sunday.
IF you agree to go to any of the meets, we are relying upon you to actually GO! We have had people back out on us at each of our competitions. This causes concerns from both the school and the coaching staff.
We cannot plan a meet if folks determine at the last minute they will not go. For many of these races, we have to enter our roster three days before in order to have races/heats and flights set the day of the event.
This also becomes an unnecessary expense and might push an athlete out when they could have competed.
We have to be sure and clear about where and what people are doing the next two weeks. The Sun is setting on the season, we do not wish to be caught in the dark.

SUNDAY PRACTICE
This morning on Western Mass News, our own Steeplechaser, Lexi Oliver was at the desk. She is the second one from the right in the picture. This race was held in New York at the Kings Relays.
We were fortunate that we were permitted to go and run against some of the best teams in Metropolitan New York City. Lexi ( Kaleidoscope) recently got her degree from the University of Massachusetts after having to wait a year due to covid. She is currently a producer at Channel 40.
This is proof that once you leave us, you are never, ever gone! Everyone in this picture has gone on to bigger and better things once they left ( as have many many others not pictured).
Your workout for today...be cautious of the slippery roads out there. We are putting together an indoor workout that you can utilize after doing your usual warm-up exercises.
Enjoy your day off, but work off some of that new found "Christmas Cheer"!

TODAY'S PRACTICE
MERRY CHRISTMAS!

MEET AT WHEATON
MAKE SURE YOU WEAR A MASK WHILE COMPETING AND WHEN IN THE BUILDING AS WELL AS ON THE BUS!
Suggest that you have a sandwich to snack on for tomorrow...or something. We have early dismissal at 1:30. Bus will pick us up by the track at 1:45. BE ON TIME!
Have your own water bottle filled ( nothing else is allowed on Wheaton campus/track).
Bring spikes, but only those in 55 hurdles, high jump and long jump can use them for THOSE SPECIFIC EVENTS.
We went over protocols yesterday, but I might offer a reminder on the bus going done to insure that we do not violate their house policy...remember we are GUESTS of Wheaton. NO exploring. Also, do not go anywhere ( bathroom, etc.) alone.
For so many of you this is your first real experience Indoors. Do your best. We should be getting back somewhere between 8:30 and 9:00. Traffic could be heavy. When we get close, we shall encourage you to call your parents for rides. Try to have them there when we arrive. I do not know if the school shall be open or not.

CLINIC UPDATE
BIGGEST GROUP WE EVER HAD AT THE CLINIC, MANY WENT ON FURTHER
Here are some instructions for those attending the DO IT CLINIC Sunday:
Bus leaves ELHS at 7:30
WHAT TO BRING
Wear what you would to a practice. Pack a bag which shall include: gloves, knit hat (in case the heat on the bus is not working right away. Blanket, pillow (optional), so you can rest on the trip there.
MASK - all Indoor activities by state and MIAA law require you to wear one.
Bring a light lunch or snack as there are no concessions at the facility. Water or juice (again no concessions). You can eat in the gymnasium where we are checking in. We are also not permitted to eat on the bus - this is a school district policy. Please place trash in the proper receptacles.
When we arrive, I shall get our packet to fill out information. We shall split up into our respective event groups after a brief motivational speech by Mr. Rich Kennedy.
We will have a map of where things are happening. Feel free to ask questions of any presenter, but not at the expense of interrupting their presentation. Pay attention!
It is always okay in this setting to make friends with folks from other teams. Some may become your competitors in the future.
Have fun! Also get raffle tickets from each clinician, there shall be a raffle giveaway after the last session
Bring back what you have learned to share with your teammates that are unable to attend.
Thank you for attending.
