Alisha joined our Cross Country team for the first time ever as a Senior. She has been an All-Western Mass.discus thrower;A little unusual nomination from an XC team.
She tried out for Volleyball, but was unable to make the Varsity team and as a Senior, our school generally does not let Seniors participate as a member of JV. So she was let go. Because of her experiences with her Track and Field teammates, she decided to help out the Girls XC team as a manager.
We actually got a "two for one"!
What folks do not know about her is that she is an accomplished weight lifter - a skill that Volleyball usually does not center around.
She offered her weight training experience and skills to our team in addition to managing our meets and practices.
Our girls have improved their performances both in the weight room as well as on the cross country courses - to the point where we secured the best record any cross country team has ever produced at ELHS.
Confidence among our runners as well as alternate weight training disciplines were learned.I attribute a great deal of this towards our gaining an athlete with considerable knowledge lifting who is willing to work both individually and collectively with the team.
Another thing about Alisha is that she has been able to help us while her Mom is taking chemo in Boston for cancer. So she's going back and forth while still maintaining her dedication to our team.
Her presence is immeasurable.
We won our second league title in school history and she had a big part in our achievement.
